Love Riot

Taking its starting point from Joan of Arc, Love Riot draws on the legendary figure who, as a teenage peasant girl, led French armies to victory against the English in the final years of the Hundred Years’ War. Her meteoric rise ended in betrayal, capture, and execution at just 19 years old—burned at the stake in 1431, largely for the crime of wearing men’s clothing.

Joan’s story, recounted through contemporary witness accounts, has fascinated Jeremy for years. But as always, history is just the foundation—the rest of the painting is a riot of contemporary thoughts, emotions, and experiences, captured in thick, visceral layers of paint.

Created in mixed media (oil, acrylic, and spray paint) on canvas (50x60cm), this work is signed, dated, and orientated on the back.
