About This Piece
Brothers draws from the medieval Life of St Ciaran of Saigir, an early Irish saint whose first disciples were not men, but a fox, a badger, a hind, and a wild boar—brought to him by a wolf. The legend, recorded between the 8th and 13th centuries, speaks of harmony between humans and nature, a theme Jeremy expands upon in his own way.
As always, history is only the starting point. Woven through the imagery is Jeremy’s diary-like approach, layering in contemporary thoughts, emotions, and visual cues that connect past and present. Text from the original Latin biography appears alongside an English translation by Padraig O Riain, allowing the viewer to engage with the story directly.
A note for music fans—"Abba" in this painting refers to the Latin word for ‘Father,’ not the Swedish pop band!
