About This Piece

One of Jeremy’s most powerful crucifixion paintings, BOOM reimagines the iconic scene with bold symbolism and layered meaning. The Greek text represents Jesus’ final words on the cross from the Gospel of John, translated directly in the painting.

The two thieves flanking Christ are depicted with bomb and grenade heads—a recurring motif representing two opposing forces:

  1. Explosive ideas—the repentant thief, whose transformation leads him to heaven.
  2. Self-destructive thoughts—the unrepentant thief, lost in his own destruction.

As with much of Jeremy’s work, personal elements blend into the biblical imagery, including diary-like text and observations—such as ‘all lost cats come home’, a hopeful note tied to a real-life event.

This piece combines spiritual, philosophical, and everyday themes, capturing the tension between destruction and salvation in a raw, expressive style.
