About This Piece
Inspired by The Beast from the Sea in Revelation 13, Blasphemy brings a contemporary twist to the apocalyptic vision described by John the Seer. The seven-headed, ten-horned creature—part leopard, part lion—symbolised imperial Rome’s persecution of early Christians, but here, its meaning expands into something raw and personal.
Layered with diary-like thoughts, comic-book-style Greek speech bubbles, and frantic, instinctive mark-making, this piece is a collision of history, theology, and modern culture. The text is scrawled in both Greek and English—though, as Jeremy admits, his Greek comes with the help of a New Testament translation!
A mix of oil, acrylic, spray cans, and pen, the painting’s 1x1.5m scale gives it an imposing presence. A true statement piece—signed, dated, and orientated on the back—it was the final work completed for Jeremy’s most recent exhibition.
